Someone needs to take Crothian out back and have him shot, if only for trying to kill kitties. The fact that he notifies us should be worth a punishment of its own, though.

I prefer American Shorthairs - got 5 of them - because they don't shed as bad as that little kitten will.

As far as I know, the, um, method Die_Kluge describes has never caused any of my cats to drop dead mysteriously in the middle of the day. The neighbor putting out anti-freeze, on the other hand....

I have shorthairs as well. And one sheds like crazy. I've had longhairs and had to deal with hairballs on a regular basis during shedding season.

I have lowlife neighbors that don't give a about anyone's animals but their own.... I've had many a cat disappear over the years.
