Beholder's Eye Rays and SR

Am I correct in believing that because a beholder's eye rays are supernatural, that they are not subject to spell resistance?

The description for the eye rays states that each eye ray resembles a spell but follows the rules for a ray.

One of my players has aquired shape-change and they're starting to look at the beholder as a viable shape for when he blows all his other spells. I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something when the group runs across the city of half-illithid/half-giants.

Su abilities don't allow SR, even when they're emulating a spell that normally does.

Is it just me, or can an awful lot of monster abilities be paraphrased as

"just like the players ability of the same name, but the players cannot counter it".

Which in an of itself isn't necessarily bad - it just makes it harder to challenge the player when they change into monsters.

Ah well, it just gives me a chance to stretch myself.

Never being able to counter spell-like abilities, and being confronted with bizarrenesses like non-magical, non-poison, non-disease paralysis (what exactly did the chuul do? push my pressure points with it's mouth tentacles??) can make things frustrating to say the least.

Was it ever decided what the DC for a shapechanged PC's beholder eye rays would be. I know for the beholder it's 10+1/2HD + CHA mod. So what is it for the player, 10 + CHA, or 10 + 1/2 (pc's HD) + CHA? To be honest, one seems like it wouldn't make a difference, and the other seems too powerful.

For DC's from a Shapechanged PC, I'd use 10 + PC's Cha Mod + 1/2 TypicalBeholderHD.

I'd use 10 + PC's Cha mod + PC's racial hit dice... the same way all Cha-based Su abilities are calculated.

Just a note, supernatural abilities are still inoperable/suppressed in an antimagic field... so they can still be countered. It is just less fun to do so because antimagic fields usually hinder the PC's more than the enemy.

So for a typical pc, that would be 10 + CHA, correct? Since all the core races have no racial HD. But a 40HD dragon with 20HD of Dragon and 20 levels of sorceror would use 10 + 10(1/2 of dragons 20 racial HD) + CHA.
