Best 3rd party dungeon crawl adventures

I really like Rappan Athuk and Tomb of Abysthor. I have never run Abysthor, though. Rappan Athuk is probably my favorite dungeon crawl, when all is said and done. My group tends to like it, also. It's a really big dungeon, but you can take a few areas that interest you and run them alone just fine.

I'd second the calls for the shorter adventures - I find Thanksgiving weekend always puts some pretty tight demands on schedules (often without notice), so steer clear of Rappan Athuk (too big) and certainly stay away from World's Largest Dungeon (way too big). I find that when I'm back with my old group, they want something they can get a sense of achievement out of by the end of the night - after that, we're all back to the grind.

Morrick Mansion, Vampires and Liches, and Crucible of Freya are all short enough to run in about 12 hours, for a focused group. However ALL of the modules that cost money and have been mentioned so far are very worth owning. I haven't tried the freebies, so I cannot comment on them.

Yeah, you've got to budget some time to eat turkey, watch football, play video games, and just lie around and digest!

I've had tons of fun with RA for one offs. Never "finished it" nor do I feel you need to.

Tomb of Abysthor is a pretty good dungeon - small enough not to be overwhelming, but large enough to offer much variety. If you are only going to play it as a one-off, I'd give the players a goal and a few pointers to go with. And if you get the module, you can run the full thing later.

If you are looking for a one-nighter, Goodman Games is the way to go. I am partial to Aerie of the Crow God for its exciting environment and general premise, but the others may work just as well.

All of Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classics are good, but I think the best of them is #5 Aerie of the Crow God. That's the one that we nominated for the ENnies this past year, and all the judges seemed to like it very much, if our opinion counts. :)

Everybody seems to think that this is a good product. While I haven't read the whole thing yet and can't agree or disagree with this, can somebody who's played it please answer a question for me.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

The premise is to find the key to the Lady's lockbox. Why bother? Surely a bunch of 7th level PC's can open a lockbox? Who needs a key?

END SPOILERS?

OK, so I haven't read the whole module yet so I may be missing something.

Thanks!
