Best 4th level spell to place in a contingency?

It partially depends upon what you use contingency for.

If it is an emergency save my bacon spell then something distance or immediately defensive. The ones mentioned above are good choices(DD, II, ORS, PS). Poly self has the bonus of healing at the end.

If it is for powering up quickly for combats or for when you get ambushed but want to fight, then consider things like fire shield or improved invis.

My opinion is DD or improved inis triggered by being surprised by an attack. Nothing ends a wizards day like an ambush and quite frankly if its the when I'm at less than 10 hp variety chances are its been dispelled by then anyways.
