Best Books Ever!

Zelazny and Herbert

I'm a huge fan Of Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber and the Dune series (yes, all of them, but only the originals. The "prequels" are wannabes). I've read both series numberable times, and intend to keep on re-reading them every few years or so.

The Dune books do have very different directions and styles as they progress, but I think it comes around nicely by the time you get to the end. I even like the machinations in "God Emporer."

The Assasin trilogy by Robin Hobb is a good couple of books, with interesting characters and a cool world.

Finally, someone else who has read The Farseer books. Next to Martin's series, these books are my favorite recent fantasies. I urge everyone to check them out. This woman deserves the acclaim that Jordan gets.

J.V. Jones's Book of Words trilogy is pretty dog gone good too. And try The Waterborn and Blackgod by J. Gregory Keyes for something a little different culturally from the typical medieval fantasy. Also the Fionavar Tapestry series by Guy Gavriel Kay (who helped Christopher Tolkein edit some of the History of Middle Earth books) and the Tyrants and Kings series by John Marco.

Waterborn and Blackgod by J. Gregory Keyes were very good, I enjoyed them alot... woefuly I cannot say the same for his Newtons Cannon series.

Great choices listed here. I love Zelazny's Amber series. Same with Donaldson's Covenant books. Another favorite is Fritz Lieber's "Lankhmar" books with Grey Mouser.

My new favorite series is Salvatore's Demon Wars. I like his Drizzt books as fun entertainment, but these are even better.

I started Martin but couldn't get into him. Maybe I should give him another try.

Some of my favorites:

Zelazny's Amber series

E.R. Eddison - The Worm Ourobouros

Larry Niven - Ringworld, The Ringworld Engineers, The Ringworld Throne

Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle - The Mote In God's Eye

John Bellairs - The Face In The Frost

Tolkien - LotR, The Hobbit

Frank Herbert - Dune

Anything by Lord Dunsany

Any Conan story by Robert E. Howard

L. Sprague DeCamp - The Fallible Fiend

David Weber's Honor Harrington series

Poul Anderson - The Broken Sword, Three Hearts and Three Lions
