Best Books Ever!

All you guys talking aboutr George RR Martin made me go out and buy the first book. And it ROCKS!!! One of the best series I have ever read. I was trying to suffer through Wheel of Time but got fed up with it (again), so bought his book. I was quite suprised by the "colorful" parts in the book.

By the time book 4 comes out I will probably just have finished book 3 LUCKY ME!!!!!

I loved Game of Thrones, but I must say it is the least impressive of the three books so far. One of the things that impressed me the most about this series is how much better it gets as it goes on.

By the end of the third book you are just floored, especially when some of the final implications sink in. I just hope Book IV keeps the streak going.

Game of Thrones was a really good book, but I'm going to wait untill the series is done before I start reading the sequels. I also enjoyed Jordan's Wheel of Time and Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, but they have gone on waaaaay to long, and I'm not going to look at them again till they're done.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is one of my favorite sci-fi books ever. Pick it up in a book store and read the first couple of pages, great stuff. Pretty much everything else he has written (The Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon) is darn good, too.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a fantastic book, highly recommended, but avoid the sequels like the plague.

The Assasin trilogy by Robin Hobb is a good couple of books, with interesting characters and a cool world.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy by some guy named Tolkeen is pretty good, too.

Salutations,

At the current rate, you can start in about ten years from now.

Hopefully.

Yep, I hear ya. It seems that by the time a sequel comes out (seems like 2 to 3 years for Martin and Jordan) I've forgotten almost everything that happened, especially with these serieses(sp?) spreading out over dozens of books. I figure it'll be easier to wait that to re-read 'em a bunch of times.

Donning Flame-Proof Hazard suit!!

While it is obvious I am in the minority here I have to say that I really didn't care for Martin's series (at least the first book which is as far as I got). It seemed to drag and lumber about with some very predictable plot 'twists' tossed in. And titling chapters after the name of the character the chapter is focusing on - with no other way to tell them apart is lame (I like being able to go back and reread a chapter and it makes it difficult when there is no way to tell chapter Bran 2 from Bran 8 - I minor grip but there it is).

I found very few characters I could identify with (except Bran and I hated what Martin did with him) and some were blatant rip offs of other people's work (the dwarf fellow, Terigan(?) screamed Miles Vorkosigen from Lois Bujold's books to me for example).

I don't knwo maybe the series gets better in the second and third books but Game of Thrones was just not what I wanted.

Commence the BBQ!!

Now THIS is BBQ material.

Dont worry Holy Bovine.... I detest Tolkiens works.

Also I'm waiting for the FotR movie to become rentable... I couldn't justify spending 7+ bucks on it.

NOW we'll see some BBQ action! Lets see if Furn_Darkside's amnesty will cover MY blasphemy.

Salutations,

My son, I *shrug* for you as well.

I think the first half of the book, FotR, is horrible and boring- it only picks up after there.

In my opinion, as long as people try Tolkien- that is fair.
