Best Comic Storlines or Ideas

So, the Watchmen. I keep hearing good things about this. Can anybody give me a rundown on the order/collection of this series? I think I've seen various hardcover and softcover books of these, but I have no idea where to jump in at, or whether to go from the beginning.

And now I look at this site and it lists only:
Watchmen #1-12
Watchmen TPB
Watchmen Hardcover Edition

I wonder what I've seen at the store? Is there really only one trade paperback of this, only 12 issues total? Cause heck, I'll pick that up today after work.

There were only 12 issues. It was a maxi-series and quite self-contained. Just pick up the trade paperback, and you will have everything you need.

Danka. I must have been confusing the Watchmen book with the Sandman books perhaps, which I have also been looking into getting, and of which there are considerably more.

And can I just say, I love trade paperbacks. Comics annoy me because they're so short. A collection is the best way to read them. If they'd only come out with the next Ultimates collection.

I really liked Englehart's Master of Kung Fu with Starlin and then Day as the artists.
Moench & Galancy did great James Bond type stuff on that book, and the Moench & Zeck run was quite good too.

Transmetropolitan: it was funny, brutal, outrageous, and entertaining whether it was something overtly political or just about Spider Jersusalem being a bastard.

Preacher: a really warped series written by a really sick writer, who somehow managed to have the main villain suffer through losing an eye, being castrated, having a leg eaten, getting an ear shot off, and being anally raped; and somehow still be a despicable villain everyone would love to hate.

The Invisibles: Probably Grant Morrison's best work, a series about a cell of terrorists against reality. Lot's of strange stuff going on. In many ways it was like parts of the Matrix was based off of the Invisibles.

Sandman: Still one of the best comics, a pretty deep series about mythologies, dreams and the lives of people and anthromorphic personifications of primal forces.

Promethea: A series about spiritual exploration and hermetic magic, mixed with a lot of interesting imagery.

New X-Men: I really liked the fact that under Morrison for the first time ever, Prof X came out of the closet on being a mutant thus making the X-Men and a lot of the mutant race also come of the closet into the open. It somehow made the whole racial conflict between mutants and humans more realistic.

(New) X-Force/X-Statix: More of an exploration on celeberities and hollywood culture, than a typical X-title. Most of the plots have been entertaining, except for the current one which was censored due to a bunch of controversy over the use of Princess Diana as a mutant superhero, in its place is something disappointing.

On the Morrison kick, I would add his run on The Doom Patrol.

That run had the only believable, and yet surprising "traitor" plot twist that I have read in comics. I liked the whole series, actually. Long live the brotherhood of Dada! Long live Crazy Jane!

I've got one I'll toss in to the discussion:

GI Joe #21 - Silent Interlude.

Simply amazing.
Yeah, that was a great issue. Probably Larry Hama's best work, with the possible exception of The 'Nam.

For that matter, I really liked Marvel's Assitant Editor Month. It was a great experiment that resulted in some terrible stuff, but some fantastic stuff, as well. Pity they've never done it again...because some of their editors needed to be taken out of the picture for a while. :)
