I've owned and played a lot of superhero games. The only ones I have not seen are some of the indie games like Truth and Justice or CAPES. M&M is by far the best system I've seen, and the only system that lets me build heroes that closely resemble their comic-book counterparts.

Same here (although I think I did see preview material for T&J? Or was it Capes? I can't remember). Champions does as well, but I find M&M plays faster and character sheets are , imo, easier to read.

If you're not sure, you can always take a look at the core system (PDQ) here for free:

I'm a _major_ fan of Zorcerer of Zo, which uses a slightly modified version of that same core. Truth & Justice is pretty groovy, but it pretty much heads the complete opposite direction of Hero/Chamnpions/M&M.

If you're into carefully crafting your Super and loading them with little bells and whistles, stick with M&M. PDQ is a rules-light game; for comparison, I'd put Unisystem at rules-medium, and M&M a bit past rules medium and headed for the crunchy side of things.

And to keep my post semi-topical... I've got the 4 color to Fantasy revised and thought it was interesting. I like what I've read of it, but actually implementing it I'm a bit more hazy on. It's not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just that for me I'd be inclined to chop up the d20 core which it's explicitly relying on. I think at the end of the day it's more of an idea mine for me, than a full on "I'd use this as is".

But a pretty groovy idea mine.

There are some seriously tuned in individuals who have made many MANY name brand supers with M&M. I've visited here many times to get an idea of how to emulate (read steal) certain supers I've wanted to play.

Having played in both champions and M&M, if given the choice I would pick mutants & masterminds hands down. I played champions only because the DM was a friend and I knew that he would run a fun game, but I never bothered to learn any more about the rules than “roll 3d6, if you hit roll a hand full of them.”

Forget M&M...it's clumsy and awkward.

Definitely D20Modern plus RPGObjects' "Blood and Vigilance" hands down.

You can't call ANYTHING "clumsy and awkward" if you mention the very KING of "clumsy and awkward", i.e. d20 Modern, in a positive way. That game is possibly the worst major publisher d20 game with a modern setting in existence. It's bland, it's clumsy, it's very very awkward, and really, has nothing going for it, particularly for superheroes.

And, even if that is the case (and I don't consider it to be), it's still a hell of a lot better than 4e which I consider to be one of the worst d20 games and just barely better than Foundation. Ymmv.
