You also cant go wrong with anything from the Paizo crew (James, Eric, Greg, Jason, Wolfgang, Richard, Nicolas, etc.) , by far my favorites.

I had a lot of fun with a recent one, Funeral Procession. It has a rather grabbing opening, followed by exploration of a slaughterhouse... great setting (Slipper floors covered in cow's blood, piles of leather that stink to high heaven, and huge rending vats that presented the highlight encounter.

I ran my group through this adventure, setting it in Freeport (where I found it fit in almost perfectly). It is a dungeon crawl for the most part but my group enjoyed it. I managed to get the BBEG at the end to escape for a rematch at a later date in the campaign. Boy were they happy when they finally got to take her out once and for all! :D

If you run it, the only part I would suggest that you modify is how much damage you take just by walking through the Stink itself. My group was far from thrilled that the ground that they walked on seemed to be dealing them more damage than anything they fought.

Wait. The city was causing damage? That's a bit extreme. Could you provide more details?

The Stink is basically one huge garbage tip. It was formerly part of the city. However, over time, that particular area of the city started getting really run-down and diseased. The rulers decided that the easiest solution to their problem was to simply wall the area off and make it into the waste disposal area for the city.

Since the ground in the Stink is basically just rubbish upon rubbish, it is constantly shifting as you walk along it. I'm going from memory here, but I think that the PCs had to make a Survival check for every hour that they travelled in the Stink. If they fail the roll then you roll on a table to see what event happens.

I can't remember if they take damage in every result but there is definitely at least one result that results in damage (and possibly contracting disease). I think the damage was something along the lines of 1d6 damage. It is explained as the PC in question cutting himself on the bits of metal, glass, etc, that litter the landscape in the Stink.

The adventure is from Dungeon #105 if you want to take a look at it.

Semi-Spoiler Warning!

There may be some minor spoilers here...




OK. Here is the "adventure path" that I'm currently running. The campaign features lesser nobles as the PCs. They have some lesser priviledge and don't have to worry too much about lesser sums.

We start with Mad God's Key. This is a good city adventure that leads to a dungeon crawl. You get to see a fair bit of the seamy side of Big City as you chase the key. It ends with a situation that can be a good hook that you can customize for later (which I did).

Next is a party. This party is solely to introduce characters that appear in two of the next adventures. This is a socialite kind of thing, but the PCs Kathkallan, an obviously wealthy merchant, and Mikael and Cesili Dromdal, Cesili being the heiress of the wealthy Dromdal family.

Alas for poor Kathkallan. After the party, he contacts them about a problem. He has a giant bee farm, and they've swarmed and moved. A halfling village is overrun by The Buzz at the Bridge. The PCs help the halflings by clearing out the giant bees with mucho extra points from Kathkallan if they relocate the bees rather than killing them.

Back to the city for a prelude to Shut In. There have been some murders, and the killer has escaped justice! (Hmm. An NPC from Chimes at Midnight might be good here.) During the unfolding drama as they find out where the killer is (alas, poor Mikael) Kathkallan come back. He is missing his Thirds of Purloined Vellium. A bit shocking that he is so concerned with missing contracts at this terrible time in the city, but he is a greedy sucker, isn't he. After the killer is put-paid, you are able to fully help Kathkallan. Later, when you discover that it isn't totally about coin, really, Kathkallan can help with some information when the body of the Swan Street Killer is stolen during the Funeral Procession!

The adventures give access to a number of NPCs and require thought and detective work along with some appropriate violence. You can't just thump everyone on the head and expect things to turn out all right. Also, not every one on the opposing "side" is fully briefed or actually part of Team Evil, so mind reading isn't the total give away that it could be.

As for the issue numbers, sorry, I don't seem to have that info in my binder full of photocopies.
