best e-product award

I've been batting around the idea of asking an organization (perhaps the Digital Publishers Group) start up an award geared completely towards electronic products (web sites, webhancements, PDFs, software, etc.)

Although it is really nice when an electronic product makes mention beside a hardcopy book or product in an award nomination (or win such an award), I think there are many worthwhile products that are being ignored.

I know I'm asking this in the right place for suggestions and advice about awards... So publishers, so fans, what do you think? Are there enough awards out there already? Should the e-publishers be happy to be considered on the same playing field as the hardcopy stuff and leave well enough alone? What categories should be in it? What voting system? Would you vote? Would you submit your product? Would you be a judge?

Any constructive criticism is welcome.

I think e-products are worthy of their own category. Perhaps have the award ceremony at one of the upcoming Cybercons; that should help promote the convention too.

Excellent!
Unfortunately, I'm pretty new to this whole online community thang (and the hubby who is far more knowledgeable is in Montreal right now)... any suggestions?

Wow- I just realized that this is a competition in which Natural20 could compete if we do this right!

I don't know if it'll make a difference to you, but a lot of people have been asking about including an electronic-only category in the ENnies next year. There's already one for free products/web-enhancements, but people have been asking about one for actual PDF products etc.

One of the tricks is getting a serious and legitimate sponsor behind the awards. Perhaps one of the larger gaming magazine publishers? I like the idea of holding it at a CyberCon. As far as what awards there should be, I would suggest:

Best d20 adventure
Best campaign setting
Best d20 rules supplement
Best free product
Best web enhancement
Best overall product
Best electronic magazine

My suggestion would be to limit a publisher to no more than two or three entries per category to avoid the judges getting slammed with material. The categories wouldn't necessarily have to be limited to d20 only but that would create even more material to read through for the judges.

Just my .02 worth...
:)

What about a category for Best Free Computer Aid?

I like the idea of having a category for just pdfs. There are a lot of great ones out there.

I'm wary of breaking down the categories too much; it waters down the value of the ENnie. I think that the number of categories we have now is just about right; I'd prefer to drop a category to add one. Thoughts?

Speaking as a general punter who is mostly deeply cynical about awards, I'd strongly suggest getting it included ni a range of awards like the ENnies that exist and already have some credibility.

And Morrus, where'd you get the lyrics to the Blackadder song? They aren't (quite) the version I used to sing with my steel weapon re-enactment mates ages ago, but we worked them out from videos and wrote several extra verses about our group so I have very hazy memories about what we thought they originals actually were...

Just from memory from watching the show - I wouldn't be surprised if I'd misheard the odd thing.
