Besides the 1973 original this is the only other good entry in the franchise, all the rest were garbage. Pretty sure I went to the theater by myself when it came out to see it.

Yeah those two are the only ones worth seeing. You can always do the Trilogy of Faith with Ninth Configuration, Exorcist I and III (though The Ninth Configuration is a little different tonally)

Heads up it is very strange. It originated from Blatty's earlier period of writing comedy. It was originally a story called Twinkle, Twinkle "Killer" Kane, but he updated it after he wrote the exorcist into a book called The Ninth Configuration, which he then got made as a movie and directed. Scott Wilson and Stacy Keach are in it and both excellent. It still has many of those comedic elements, but they come off surreal as the subject matter is quite dark.

After you mentioned that Stacy Keach was in it, I remembered reading about the movie not long ago probably when Exorcist: Believer came out. I recall reading the premise on Wikipedia and thought it sounded weird and not sure if it wasn't available on Prime at the time or I just decided not to watch it. Think I'll watch it now that it's on Prime because I'm sure it won't be for long.

The best way to experience it is not going in expecting a particular experience. It is not an easily labeled film. Personally I really like it but it is also one of those movies that people probably have strikingly different reactions to
