Best Horror Movies of All Time

I also find it very odd to make a big deal about horror films needing to be scary, thus eliminating Sixth Sense, and then adding...checks notes...Ghostbusters?

Anyway, here are some of my top horror films excluding comedies.
One of Guillermo's best.

Deep cut.

Better in black and white!

Nightmare fuel.

A24, say no more.
The Sentinel scared the absolute piss out of me when I watched it as a “waaaaay too young to be watching that movie” kid.

The Keep is trippy and weird and never lets up from its tone… but is it actually horrifying, or even scary?

(BTW, as a joke I once showed The Keep and Castle Keep back to back. No, they have nothing to do with each other.)
It's arguable, I think technically it could be called horror, I mean is From Dusk Till Dawn, Constantine or Alien Resurrection horror? Sort of. A lot of horror is also not very "horror" but just gore, like the Hostel, or Saw films.

It's classified as a horror movie/book by Wikipedia and if you can't trust them who can you trust? This is why I try to steer clear about nitpicky discussions about what constitutes horror, science fiction, or some other genre. You do not want to be in the same room as one of those guys who gets all indignant when you bring up Star Wars during a discussion about science fiction.

It's more of a western...

Side note: a buddy of mine has been tapped by his local movie house to have his electronic duo (guitars & synths) provide the music for a screening of Nosferatu. They were specifically asked to do it in THEIR style, not aping the music of the era.

One I keep meaning to mention is the Cube series. The original is kind of refreshing. The sequels are more of the same.

Escape the Field is kind of a spiritual successor.

Also, I have to mention Cabin Fever. As a horror movie, it’s middle-of-the-pack at best. However, IMHO, it may hold the record for longest time between a movie setting up a joke and firing off its punch line. The setup involves familiar stereotypes; the payoff subverts them 100%.
