Best level to fight the Tarrasque

It doesn't matter if the Tarasque takes any real damage, all you need to do is a bunch of subdual damage. Please check the MM errata.

Yep. Then it just takes a Wish or Miracle to keep it dead.

Oh. Right.

I stand corrected.

No biggie. After all, the errata entry for the Big T was more of a total rewrite of it's regeneration ability than a simple addition to errata. :)

I'm curious though, what would be the CR modifier of just the regeneration ability. That would make a pretty slick addition to even low CR monsters.

Okay, this is silly . . .

Nothing EVER deals real damage to Tarrasque, under ANY circumstance, right? He is beaten by being nailed for Max HP +30 subdual damage (for those of us not using the standard Tarrasque), or 870 in most cases, right? You have to use Wish or Miracle at that point to kill it, right?

What the fark is the point of that? You'd get the SAME FARKING RESULTS from changing it to Fast Healing 40 and getting rid of that subdual damage crap, allowing everything to hit him for normal damage!

So what is the point? It makes no sense . . .

Agreed. I much prefer the pre-errata Tarrasque. It's a LOT more fun if you can only kill it by drowning or asphyxiating it. Beating it *really* unconcious and then wishing it dead seems kinda... blah to me.

No, they should just give Tarraque Fast Healing 40 and take away the immune to everything ability.

Heck, pre-errata, it couldn't even be killed from drowning orasphixiation. It took normal damage from NOTHING. Even instant death things only take it down to -10.

Pre-errata, Tarrasque was absolutely invincible, like the Godzilla of D&D. After the errata, Tarrasque is senseless. Just give it Fast Healing and the problem is solved.

I think that the lowest level that one could disable the Tarrasque would be first. Then you just need someone to cast the Miracle.

Using Mining and Engineering skills, rig a tall cliff to collapse - use more than one if possible. Use bait to lure the T under the cliff(s). Collapse the cliff. Just like the old "Shapechange into block of lead and fall on someone" trick, make gravity do the damage for you.

I thought persistent spells took up slots 8 levels higher than normal. How will a twelfth-level caster get access to a ninth-level spell? Unless he's been saving a scroll of persistent divine favor for just this purpose....

Persistant spells take up a slot 4 levels higher than normal.

Divine Favor is a 1st level spell, taking up a 5th level spell slot when persisted.

With a bead of Karma, a 12th level cleric would have a caster level of 16 when casting the persisted Divine Favor. (Note, bead of Karma effect only lasts 10 minutes, so cast all your Persistant and "1 hour/level" spells during that time.

Well, you're half right. As drowning/asphyxiation don't actually deal *damage* per se, creatures with regeneration are vulnerable to them. So you *can* drown a troll to death.

You're right about instant death things though.

Personally, I think the big T should be akin to Godzilla... back when Godzilla was an unstoppable menace. Encounters with the Tarrasque should be centered on keeping it from razing cities to the ground as opposed to destroying it with hugely metagame plans of attack that the characters wouldn't have ANY CHANCE IN HELL of knowing.
