Best Mech rules, who's?

OK so Future has rules for mechs, and then there is d20 Mecha. Each system doesn't really blend together. So which is the better of the 2 systems? Or has someone else come out with a better system to handle mechs? Has there been errata that makes the two systems more compatible?

Let's not forget Armageddon 2089 by Mongoose, it does a better job at emulating Battletech then the systems you mentioned. It kind of depends on what you want to achieve with the rules set, what kind of 'feel' are you looking for?

Armageddon 2089 rocks.
I might be biased, though.
I test piloted. :)

d20 Mecha has the better mecha creation and combat ruleset.

Polyhedron's Mecha Crusade mini-game has the better character creation options.

I was thinking about space mechs. I have a few of the setting books for Jovian Chronicles, and wanted to go in that direction. Space battles between ships and mechs or mech on mech.

I wasn't aware that the character creation was different (but I'll take a look at the issue to make sure). I bought the Mecha Compedium and Was a little upset to find out that there were no creation rules.

The softbound MC doesn't have class for which you can choose from. But the hardbound Deluxe MC does, including reprint of Mecha d20 SRD (released by Guardians of Order) does.

Other than that difference, both MC are basically stats books.

As for the difference between d20 Future/Mecha Crusade campaign model and Mecha Crusade mini-game, the former has only one AdC (Mecha Jockey), the latter has six AdCs (melee-oriented Shock Trooper, ranged-oriented Mecha Ace, Weapon Designer, Cyborg, Sleeper Agent, and Wing Captain).

I'm preferential to D20 Mecha myself. Of course much like Ranger REG, I'm of the opinion that the character options in Mecha Crusade are hard to beat.

Actually REG has covered damn near everything I was going to say. Since you mentioned Jovian Chronicles I'd suggest checking out the DP9 forums (www.dp9forum.com). There is a fairly active JC section there

Why emulate Battletech when we still have the real thing? :D

Seriously though I've never felt comfortable using d20 style rules for any sci-fi game.

Which is better for....

I am a Battletech/Mechwarrior fan. I remember when the 3025 and 3050 books both came out and our little mech company came in contact with the Clans for the first time and one of us got "mech jacked" by a point of Elementals. We played Battletech more like an RPG...6 players and a GM who controlled the enemy type of set up.

Anyhow...my question...which rules set is best for a Battletech style game. I'd like to be able to just about convert verbatim a mech from Battletech to the system in question if possible. Any thoughts.
