Best non-lethal damage 1st level character (thru 5th)

I was thinking of doing a non-lethal character. What's the best combo for levels 1-5 (five/cinco/V) max?

Probably Monk - because they can deliver all subdual damage, Bard - because they have powers that subject their targets to their influence rather than just bashing them, or some combination of the two?

try a high Str monk, good dex, ignore wis
Feats
1st lvl Improved grapple
monk ft -stunning fist
human ft - WF unarmed
2nd mk ft combat reflexes
3rd lvl exotic prof - chain
equipment & skills
chain w/o spikes d6 dmg (for tripping)
carry a good padlock or two, for trying people up with chain
max out cross class skill - use rope
take craft alchemy or keep stock of thunderstones and tanglefoot bags
