I'll join the mob and vote for Dwarven Wizard.

Dwarven Druids, Elven Paladins, and of course Half-Orc Monks and Rangers are good combinations too.

Dwarf Wizards and Paladins.
But with the new rules why would you ever play anything but a cleric???
Fear the Cleric's Power! Fear the Cleric! Fear the Cleric!!!

Been there, done that.
1) Just because WHFRP does it doesn't mean it's logical and certianly doesn't mean its cool.
2) It's not just logic. It's image and concept.

Since it's a fantasy concept I don't think you can use logic too explain why you think Dwarven arcana spellcasters "feel wrong". It can never be anything else than just your own personal perception derived from whatever sources of fantasy contribute mostly to your conception of fantasy in general. I agree on the Warhammer part, though...

It's your right and privilege to find arcane dwarves not fitting to your own personal image and concept - just don't make it a generalisation. I love those Dwarven wizards. Arcane battlesmits galore!!!

That being said, the first characters I felt like creating for 3E (I'm the DM so it was just to test the character generator) was a Dwarven Ranger/Paladin....

Dwarf Wizards

I always thought the idea of dwarves not having wizards was a bit wonky, when they were supposed to be these great craftsmen of magical weapons and armor...though the idea of being able to craft magical items with a good enough Proficiency Check was intriguing...:)

I said "Halfling Monk". Near untouchable critter. However, if you had put the Gnome Paladin (on a Dire Fox mount), I would have voted for this one !

Elves are chaotic, I can't imagine them monk or paladin while still truly elvish. I run a campaign where a character is an elven paladin, but he was raised by humans (after a green dragon made his market in an elven village and put every elves in his fridge, save the little elf-boy who was away picking mushrooms).

However, Dwarven Paladin all the way : most dwarves are LG ("usually" in the alignment description means 51% or more of the population) and they are quite militaristic, with a focus on protection. LG soldier fighting to protect his brethen, don't that sound paladin-ish ? Halflings also could easily be paladin, I think.

Gnome druids and rangers also seems so blatant combinations it's a pity they forget it.

I wasn't using logic as a justification for anything. Wasn't it ME who said it isn't logic... it's concept and feel?

Um, did I ever. From the get-go I said it doesn't seem right to me.

Sheesh.... you must be catching that "read into other people's statements" bug that is going around the DS list...
