Unearthed Arcana Best use for Cartographer's maps?

When casting a spell or creating an effect that requires being able to see the target, a map holder can target another map holder regardless of sight, so long as the other map holder is still within the spell or effect’s range

What's the best spells and features to use with the Cartographer's maps (I.e. though walls/fog).

Shadow Monk seems like it could work well. Being able to cast buffs on him while they are in darkness. Fog Cloud on a fighter with blind fighting is another option.

But is there better options? Anyway we can break this?

Just being able to cast scatter or any other “teleport another creature” spell on your party members that you can’t see because they got devoured or whatever. Makes getting swallowed much less scary.

As I recall, 2024 still requires line-of-effect for spells unless explicitly stated otherwise, and a swallowed creature would not be within line-of-effect. So, this wouldn't work RAW.

As I recall, 2024 still requires line-of-effect for spells unless explicitly stated otherwise, and a swallowed creature would not be within line-of-effect. So, this wouldn't work RAW.

They specifically used "swallowed" and "behind a wall" as an example in the video. At 9:10

Also, I may be missing it, but I don't see line-of-effect anywhere in the 2024 rules.

Closest thing I see is Total Cover which has "Can’t be targeted directly".

Being more clear about it wouldn't hurt.

Probably not the best use, but Ice Knife can target your ally and damage creatures around them.

• Spare the Dying
• Bless
• Sanctuary
• Haste
• Telekinesis
• Heal
• Mass Heal
• Power Word Heal

From official 2014 sources (not counting spells that reappear in 2024), still in level order:

• Air Bubble (Astral Guide)
• Vortex Warp (Strixhaven)
• Fizban's Platinum Shield (Fizban's Treasury)
