Best Vehicle road combat rules?

Getting lost in fantasy maps
I'm not terribly familiar with the full plethora of road combat rules out there. I am most interested in duplicating Mad Max/Road Warrior combat scenes.

How does D20 Modern work for this? Or should I dump it's rules for something like Fantasy Flight's D20 mini-campaign Redline? Or should I just skip what folks have tried within the D20 framework and import in Car Wars' rules? Has anyone done a good system in D20 for road vehicle combat?

I played Car Wars more than a decade ago and I loved it. It was simple to understand, easily tought to others. It had wonderful vehicle customization rules. I own all of the products produced for it already.

Those of you who have tried them all, what's the best road combat rules out there?

Road combat rules

The two books I have are Spycraft which deals alot on chase scenes might have a good combat rules, I only skimmed over them alittle. Now the new book that I'm getting into and will be checking out is OGL Steampunk which has creation rules for a Steampunk environment. I have just started testing out the creation rules for everything, so I can get you a feed-back on this book. It all depends on what type of genre you are looking for?

Grim Tales has a nice stripped down version of vehicle rules, and I do kinda like Redline. Sadly, cinematic vehicle chase rules were the first project on my list for my company, but other things just seem to keep popping up. Someday, though ...

Grim Tales IS nice, and worth picking up on its own.

Well share with a brutha, will ya barsoomcore? :)

We use a modified Spycraft with d20 Modern vehicle stats, and to be honest it can be a bit too abstract at times. We had a situation once where a city bus with a couple flat tires outran two hero vehicles (a police interceptor squad car and a Cadillac Escalade) on an open interstate because of some strange vagaries in the rules, and it just didnt feel right no matter how we tried to rationalize it.

I've just started reading up on the rules in Grim Tales, and hope to see something that is somewhere in the middle of d20 modern and Spycraft, that can take into effect simple statistics of world physics like acceleration, etc, without being too complex or too abstract, while maintaining a good balance between real world and cinematic.

Yeah, I know, it's a tall order, but if it was that easy we would have done it ourselves already :)

Looks like I'll be taking a glance at Grim Tales.

With RPG Objects putting out so much support for aspects of D20 modern, I'm having visions of a Blood and Pavement accessory for cinematic road action and vehicle customization. ;)
