Best way to keep from being charmed?

To Hyp...

Well, suggestion, to me... is more illusion or a bending of mental reality(the Suggestion takes an idea, coming from an enemy, which might be foolish in the extreme, or suicide... and makes the target feel as though "Hey! that's a great idea!)

Geas, well, that's not mind control... it still allows the luxury of choice... with huge-a** penalties...

How is that different to the "Hey! He's a nice guy!" of Charm Person?

Charm Person is not control. It's far less "controlling" thatn Suggestion. It just influences your attitude towards a person.

Geas, well, that's not mind control... it still allows the luxury of choice... with huge-a** penalties...

Ooh, do we want to re-open the "Does Geas allow a choice?" debate? :)

A Ring of Counterspells should do the job against charm person. It's not too expensive. Just have the cleric or wizzie fill it with Charm Person whenever it gets expended.

And while I don't mind Charm Person being blocked by Protection from Evil along with Dominate Person (it seems a natural progression,) I am a little leary of the ruling that it doesn't block Suggestion. I'd have put Suggestion in the same category as Charm Person, just somewhat stronger...

Take 3 levels of Holy Liberator.

Perfect if you're Chaotic Good. If you're Lawful Anything, 3 levels of Monk is almost as good, giving you a +5 to your Will save against Enchantments, and a few other nifties-- even if you don't want to take your armor off.
