Dammmnnn!

That demo is QUITE IMPRESSIVE! Well done.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. BTW, I've just uploaded the Bears demo to the store. You can find it under the Free Stuff link or my publisher page. Reviews would be welcome.

Cheers,

I shouldn't, but I'd like to ask for a review copy. This product looks really cool, which makes it a shame that Betabunny Publishing doesn't even have an entry in the Review database!

Thanks for the offer. I'd certainly love some reviews, but don't want to give the impression that I'm buying favorable reviews with free copies. BTW, I have uploaded the demo to Free Stuff section of the store, so that can now be reviewed by anyone.

Cheers,

Sean

After finally reading the demo what do I find? Sun bears and Moon bears. And I got sun bears wrong re habitat and location.

The number of alternate names that some animals have caused me to follow many dead ends. A number of animals even share the same or similar names, and many sources get different species mixed up because of this. I came to appreciate why zoologists identify every species with a unique Latin name. The worst offender, and Guinness World Record Holder, in terms of alternate names, is the Cougar (Puma, Mountain Lion, etc.) which is known by over 40 different names.

Now the greater panda is one of the missing bears, what is the other? BTW, pagan and early Christian Russia had dancing bears too.
The panda was not included as it is not predators, but "eats shoots & leaves."

I didn't cover the blue bear. If it's 5 times the size of a grizzly, it would be a truly awesome opponent (as well as a great name for a tavern!). I do cover the Nandi Bear, but I've included that under Hyenas since the descriptions indicated a closer relationship with hyenidae. I also cover the Beast of Gevaudan (which was mentioned under the link you provided), but include it under Canines.

I'll have to make a note to look up the carnivorous catapillars, for when I start compiling the third volume of the Bestiary.

Cheers,

Sean

I do cover the Nandi Bear ...

(snip)

Another nice cryptid. However, according to what I've heard most cryptozoologists consider the Nandi Bear a surviving chalicothere. A line of extinct perrisodactyls most closely related to the horses. Thus it is misidentified as a bear.

The blue bear is something best saved for a book on cryptids, if one gets done. And where cryptids are concerned it's a good idea to be wary of the available sources. Some are reliable, others are crackpots. If there's anything I can do to help in that department feel free to drop me a line.
