Better video game: Icewind Dale 2 or Temple of Elemental Evil?

Well, which one do you prefer, and why?

 

[Simplicity]

Both games are cool but for different reasons.

They are both HARDCORE games. The battles are really tough in
both of them.

Personally, I really like Icewind Dale 2 more because it doesn't take
itself seriously. (Why yes, Timmy. I had to kill all the boars. They
might have swallowed some gold pieces!) Plus, its scripters really knew
how to squeeze interesting situations out of the scripting engine.
Almost every battle is interesting in one way or another.

Mechanically, I prefer ToEE. I would LOVE to see this engine applied (WITH PATCHES) to other scenarios and mroe plot intensive games.

Storywise, Icewind Dale 2 was a much better involvement. As was stated, the designers jumped rings around the ToEE storyline as presented. However, I think the Temple's storyline, because it came from the old school of though where design was minimal to allow for more DM customization, was so simplistic it really doesn't have a lot of grist for the mill.

IW2 wins on style, Temple wins on execution.

IWD2 has a better storyline, but ToEE is a better implimentation of the D&D rules.

I choose ToEE, mainly because it has higher replay value, better implimentation of the D&D rules, and a spectacular turn-based combat system.
