Beware the beard

Group of Pc currently fighting bearded devils, and one poor rogue just ended up receiving a volley whack that left him with 3 infernal wounds.
Now comes the tricky part :
- Are the three wounds healed in one check/spell with one DC 16 check ?
- Does each wound require a separate check/spell ?
- Does the three wounds are healed in one check/spell, but having to overcome three DC 16 check in a row ?

Option 1 seems the simplest and make piling on of the infernal wounds not too dangerous, whereas option 2 and 3 makes the fact of having more than one becoming quite scary (with a nasty Black Vise on first round flashback shivering down my spine.)

The question is more rules related, if it comes down to subjective game-balancing, I'll decide which one I choose, though advice is always welcome.

We just had an issue with a Bearded Devil. My players had gone into a house and the hosts suspiciously said "Don't go into the basement, we will be back in 10 minutes." So of course the chaotic fighter and barbarian immediately head to and are trapped in the basement with a Bearded Devil.

The fight got a infernal wound, neither had proper heals, and time ran out before they could escape.

Isn't Infernal Wound a bit powerful? Shouldn't they get a Fortitude save?

I'm one of the players, and I have to pay tribute to my DM's style and flare, here. Not too dangerous, like "only losing 6 hit points per round, really nothing to worry about, you still have all of 7 hit points left...".
Really nice encounter, by the way.

The first question is, do the infernal wounds stack? It seems like you've already decided they do. I'm not sure which way it should occur per the rules, but I think technically they should not stack since Infernal Wound is a magical effect and magical effects from the source do not stack.

That said, once they stack, I would let a single check/heal overcome all infernal wounds on a single victim.
