By chance I happened to read this in Wikipedia

I immediately thought of the dnd races with lowlight vision and how they might have an interesting quirk like eyeshine that I had never considered before.
So I wonder if there are other little bits and pieces of science out there that could be applied to the various races in dnd to perhaps give them a little more character and seem a little less like collection of bonuses.
