If New Line are smart (and they haven't shown themselves to be so far), they'll take on a director who will imitate Jackson's style, cinematography and art direction (though perhaps lighter, as you put it). It would likely turn out badly if they allowed their new director to make his mark on The Hobbit (and the Silmarilion?). Movie-goers like continuity and Jackson has already fixed the look of Tolkien's world in many people's minds.Klaus said:Maybe the new director will use the blueprint of Middle-Earth already established, but make a lighter movie out of it (much like The Hobbit is a lighter tale than LotR).
Why take an imitation when the original is available? Just resolve his payment for LOTR, dammit!Zander said:If New Line are smart (and they haven't shown themselves to be so far), they'll take on a director who will imitate Jackson's style, cinematography and art direction (though perhaps lighter, as you put it).

I didn't mind omissions - unlike a lot of purists, I do not regret the omission of Tom Bombadil. Treebeard having to be tricked into stomping Sarumun's ass was just stupid, though.
I'd like to see a hobbit film, and there's really less for Jackson to screw up in the Hobbit, but I'll never forgive him for raping LotR.
