Blinding Barrage with 1 dagger?

Alternatively, you could just not track ammo!

That's high on my option list but not necessarily
everyones cup of tea.... alternatively you can allow
players to purchase higher quality ammo -- this
makes interesting sense stronger/better balanced
equipment break less often or get lost less often
if you do "fancy tricks" with them.

fancy tricks such as affecting more than one enemy
with a single piece of equipment.

A far more interesting description of blinding barrage
might be. Tossing my dagger i hit an artery of one
target just right causing the blood to splatter even
in to the eyes of a near by allies who stumble into
another blade or nearby hazard.

or the dagger hits deflecting off the bucket helm of one enemy
knocking it out of place so he cant see and cuts
the forehead of his ally further back so it bleeds into his face.
Two blind enemys and one high quality dagger thrown.

And how about 3 enemies..2 nearby and one farther back
I could skin it thus... I slash a broad sweep slash
catching the bridge of one nose and the pommel hits the
other -- I reverse it and throw it knocking the flag
post on the head of the final one further back The
flag falls in his face...

The spinning weaving running high slash which ends in the rogue
being back where he started somebody mentioned is
something you could use when you have a lot of enemies.

Im not fond of letting equipment tracking becoming a damper
on imaginations... that does not seem in the spirit of D&D.
(no matter what you pull out of the quote box).

A ninja / rogue player might flesh it out as some cheap blinding powder being
thrown while he slashes everyone variously with a similar dodging weaving run
described above... we will call the blinding powder his light thrown weapon...
and use his +2 dagger for the attacks damage etc.

He will put the stuff in his inventory and track quantities used
and likes it.

This is a daily effect ... the rogue cant do it all the time
but when he does I think it should be fun.

BTW, I really like how Warhammer Quest (it's a Hero Quest style fantasy board game with lots of RPG influence) handles ammunition.

You simply buy ammo which lasts for one adventure, regardless how often you use it. :)

For close attacks, for ranged weapons you need a piece of ammunition for each target. For melee weapons, you do not.

Daggers are a melee weapon, therefore you do not. Shuriken are a ranged weapon, therefore you do.

'But it has the thrown ability!'

Do you need a sword for every target in a close attack? No? Of course not.

The fact the weapon needs the thrown property doesn't change the fact it's a melee weapon.

And, of course, disregard that for magic weapons, cause 'A Wizard Did It(TM)'

Yeah, I suppose one could see it working that way (using the Dagger to stab nearby foes) for close attacks specifically. Especially the Rogue powers are often melee or ranged weapon.

Mechanically even if the weapon required to be used for the power must be throwable... the attacks made with the power in the mechanics does not say they must be thrown or cant be thrown for that matter. So unless the only way the weapon can attack is to throw it... then it doesnt have to be.

The spirit of the rules (I am a big fan of that spirit) also encourage the more tolerant interpretation. --

I have some house rules which take that a step farther even if more stringent use of equipment tracking is engaged. Including high balance/quality equipment which counts as more than one and impaired trick shot performance options (after all improvise a bunch of stones for the other attacks could be seen as the most extreme of impaired performance option)
