Blindness question

Ok one of my toons was surrounded by assasins, who were all subject to a holy word the next round which rendered them blind and deaf. I seem to recall reading somewhere that blind creatures do not threaten the areas around them and can't sneak attack or flank. Am I imagining this?

Blinded: The character cannot see. He takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class, loses his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), moves at
half speed, and takes a –4 penalty on Search checks and on most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks. All checks and
activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Spot checks) automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total
concealment (50% miss chance) to the blinded character. Characters who remain blinded for a long time grow accustomed to
these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

I don't see any mention of revoking your threatening nature...

how i would do it

As a DM I would do this:
They do threaten the areas around them but they can’t make attacks of opportunities because they would have no idea if someone opened themselves up for one… unless they were grappling them.
Yes they can flack because the PC would still have to defend himself from two different directions regardless of who is blind.
No they don’t get sneak attacks because that relies on being able to attack your target precisely… which they would have now way of doing if they were both blind and deaf. If they were one or the other then I think they would have a case but without ether there is just no way.

It's there, but hidden in the statement about total concealment. The SRD says: "You can?t execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies."

This means a blind character cannot take AoOs.

Actually you cant sneak attack if there is ANY concealment, not just total concealment. This is listed in the PHB under the description for Sneak Attack under Rogues.

The topic is about the AoO not the SA so AuraSeer's answer is valid.

Right, but that has nothing to do with my post. I was addressing attacks of opportunity, not sneak attacks.

Blind assassins?

Cool! Now you have the fun of figuring out whether Uncanny Dodge lets you retain your Dex bonus to AC while blind in 3.5!

Well to answer that question I just ask myself this one. If the Sage was attempting to death attack the rules would he retain his Dex bonus?
