Blogs.

So what I'd like to do it replace my website with a Blog, as well as set up a second blog for private conversations with my friends after leaving MU*s behind for good (Details, if anyone cares, here.)

Can you reccomend me some Blog sites? Warn me of pitfalls? Is it even possible to have a blog visible to only a few people? Is a blog the best replacement for a social MUX?

As you can see, despite way too many years in IT, I have no clue about Blogs. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I use MSN spaces, as I can sign in through messenger and update easily. Also I like the layouts of it, and you can have your blog visible only to people on your list, if you want. I don't. I syndicate mine. Check my sig.

I love blogs. :) If you really are so clueless about them, here is a good place to start:

Blogger is quite popular but I haven't used it much. I use Livejournal though.
www.livejournal.com

And yes on livejournal you can set it to where only select people can view your journal, or certain posts which you can "flag" as private and readable by only certain people and/or groups. But for people to see these flagged messages they will need to be livejournal members as well. I don't know how blogger handles this.

Is a blog the best replacement for a social MUX? Well I suppose it depends on what your needs are, as I can't read the post you linked (requires membership, for shame!)

For your years in IT, hopefully you know how to setup php/mysql or have access to a web server that provides this to you. If so, you might even want to host your OWN blog and run it with software like Wordpress, which I HIGHLY recommend (given that one have the ability and resources)

The popular Treasure Tables roleplaying blog just updated its site to use Wordpress. Looks nice, hu?

Oh. Um...

Oops. I may as well repost it on ENworld. Try here.

I second the vote on Wordpress.

I recently converted over a hobby site to use it. Although the site was originally fully written by myself (including backend stuff), Wordpress just did more and with less effort.
