Blood & Space 2: High Flyers & Ground Pounders

The new classes are Operations Expert, Starship Gunner, Starship Navigator and Starship Marine.

What sort of classes are these? AdCs? Or base classes? Any new occupations?

D20 Future starship combat is enhanced by more detailed Crew quality rules. These quality ratings transfer directly to ship performance AND boarding party quality.

So are there boarding rules?

All four of the classes are advanced classes. There are no occupations in this book, although there will be some in the upcoming Prometheus campaign setting (which is the "home" setting for all Blood and Space products although each can be used without the other).

The crew combat rules Masada mentions, which are part of the expanded crew rules in Blood and Space: High Flyers and Ground Pounders were designed with boarding in mind, although they work for any small engagement (up to 100 combatants per side could be handled with ease).

One thing I gotta ask... Why Survival skill for Semaphor use and for using flares to guide in aircraft? Seems like it would either be part of Pilot training or maybe a language skill.

Well the thinking was that signalling was basically a non-technological skill that just happened to still be in use in the modern (or future world). Given that Native Americans of various tribes and African tribesman could communicate through drums and smoke... and that mirrors were used in medieval times... we decided to make it a skill that Conan could learn and went with Survival.

Survival also got my nod because it can be used untrained. Anyone can take red lifejackets and spell HELP on a beach (they might put it in the wrong place and thus fail their check etc).

A little history, in Blood and Guts we had one new skill, called Signals, which covered Signal Interception, Signal Jamming, Cryptography and the primitive signals.

However, we decided to go with the version of the skill as presented in d20F.
