Bloodlines in Birthright

Why do some people dislike the bloodline rules for Birthright? Or, could they be more specific and give a detailed explanation why they feel that way.

I realize that the origin for this came from the historical explanation of a Kings divine right to rule the masses, but is it the fact that one must be 'blooded' (regents?) to rule a Kingdom and only they are allowed bother people the most?

I would say to counter that is to make commoners have the ability to be blooded as well (easier then the tighmere[sp] method). Perhaps a magical enhancement to a weapon or something to that effect.

Reason I'm asking is converting to a new campaign setting, so I would like your opinion as always.

I don't dislike the bloodline rules, I'm not sure what the problem with them is. It's the domain rules that I don't like. BR is a great setting, but it's too much work to play it the way it was meant to be played.

I can understand that. I feel it gives another layer (albeit powerful one) for the characters to interact in, but like all things its essentially optional (like psionics).

Some people will dislike anything. For instance, I don't like chocalate, which 99% of people seem to love.

Anyway, I rather liked the Birthright setting. I was rather sad when WOTC killed it off...

Especially since it would have been perfect (IMHO) for their chainmail game, rather than having to make up a whole other side of Greyhawk...

We had a three year campaign in BR that was great. Then the USAF moved the DM and the campaign went to pot. Some PC's were "blooded" while others were not and there was no problem. Some became regents, the others took positions in the ruling gov. Would love to see it revamped for 3rd ed. I know the BR website out there looks to have lots done but I havn't had time to preview the material yet.

I know ... I'm combinging Birthright Rules and the Dragon 293 Counterycraft (think simple BR with no blood) Rules to make it a D20-ish BR, if possible.

If I make anything thats viable, I'll be sure to post 'em.

Although I can make it non-blooded ... I'm sort of torn whether I should make the rules with them or not. Hence, why I created this thread.

Hey, I love Birthright. It's not that tough, relatively speaking, to convert it over to 3e. Most of the Blood Abilities are now Feats (take a look - it surprised me), for example.

I ran a very successful 2E game in the Birthright world - but used none of the regency rules. Instead, the players were typical adventurers caught in the machinations of the Spider (and of course, the Gorgon). 'Blood' played a great part in the game, and I welcome a 3E take on it...!
