Blue screen of death error code

Lefferts

First Post
Can anyone tell me anything about an error code INVALID_WORK_QUEUE_ITEM from a blue screen of death I have been getting every once in a while? It says something about checking recently installed hardware, but I haven't installed anything recently.

Thanks,
Brian

Most BSoDs are driver related (or bad RAM). I *think* work_queue is network related, so you might check and see if there are new drivers for your network card. You could also try deleting and re-installing the network subsystem, but that's not for novices.

How often is it ocurring?

It happens on bootup about 2-3 times a week. Rebooting clears it up, but I am worried it is a sign of a bigger problem.

I think I will check the network drivers like you said and see if that could be the problem.

Thanks for you help.

If it's only happening on bootup, you you might try running a scandisk check. You might have some twitchy bits on the drive that are causing problems when a core system function is loaded.

Right-click on the drive in My Computer, select 'propterties', then 'tools', then under 'Error Checking' click 'Check now'. Check both boxes and then 'Start'. If it's the system disk, you'll have to reboot. You should also back up before you do anything to the disk.

Can you check C:\Windows\Minidump (or c:\winnt) and post the latest file here? I think windows write crash files as default, but you never know, so hopefully the folder is not empty. Anyhow, these files are rather small, 64kb or so, but they contain lots of useful information for geeks to analyze.

Scandisk didn't come up with anything.

Here's a minidump file - I had to zip it to upload it.

I really appreciate the help guys,
Brian

I checked Microsoft and didn't find much useful info. I have a photo printer that was installed about a month before this started happening, but it is never on. I'm going to see if there is updated software/drivers for it and see what happens.
