[BO9S] Question about "Claw at the Moon" Manuever

The maneuver mentions a jump check that must beat your opponent's AC. I am wondering if this jump check replaces your normal attack roll for the maneuver.

The main text readout leads me to believe you still need an attack roll. However, when comparing it to other 2nd level maneuvers, there are several that deal the same extra damage, have a nicer secondary portion, AND require no skill check. So either the maneuver is garbage compared to some others, or I'm misinterpreting something.

The Tiger Claw discipline seems to have had some very shoddy editing. 1st level maneuvers with pre-reqs, bad stun DCs, and wonky stuff like this.

I don't think you're misinterpreting, and I do think it's a good candidate for a house rule.

There are several maneuvers that follow the same basic procedure.

Make a skill check, and get a bonus on your attack/damage/etc, if it hits. fail and xx happens.

Claw at the Moon has you make a Jump check, then if you make it you get the extra bonus on your attack.

The wording indicates, just less clearly than it should, that you make a Jump check and then a melee attack. The Jump check does not subsume the melee attack. So you make an attack roll as normal.
