First, a rules update for Mark regarding Tide of Iron:

A unit that is pinned but not fatigued CAN give LOS for mortar ballistics fire.
An assaulting unit receives no cover bonuses from terrain or entrenchments.
A unit in OpFire mode MAY assist in an assault.

I really want to take another run at both of those scenarios on defense -- nail biters.

The game designer for Napoleon's Triumph just posted a session summary complete with photos on the geek -- makes me so excited to get this game in my hands. It's exactly the kind of game play I've been looking for.

I read through the rules for Imperial and it looks very straight-forward rules wise but with many paths to victory. There are many military elements to the game but the winner is the player who has invested most wisely in the nations' successes. It's possible that two countries that you have invested considerable money in are at war with one another and you're getting rich off it.

Yeah. I figured. I would be glad to play the scenarios again. If you want to come over some time this week or play this weekend... I think I am finally beginning to wrap my brain around most of the rules in that game. Hopefully there will be no more disputes. The only rule I rather disagree with is Opfire squads being able to assist assaults. Especially the damned machine gunners. They are so powerful on opmode to begin with that this makes them even stronger.

Just a nitpick. I will concede to the rules. :)

I played through a few rounds of Imperial last night and the strategic possibilities are impressive. Players aren't trying to conquer the world, their trying to get stinkin' rich off of world conquest. You might choose to wage war with a country you control and build a strong and prosperous nation only to have it bought out from under you.

Interestingly enough, when a nation is doing well and earning a lot of money, other players might be more prone to buy stock in the country instead of go to war against it!

It's even possible to win the game without controlling a single nation, simply by investing in the nations that are doing well.

On the other hand, you might control 2 nations and order one to attack the other to hurt people who have invested heavily in the loser and increase your majority value in the winner.

There are 6 simple actions that can be taken by each nation in turn but with a wide range of possibilities. I'm looking forward to playing this one!
