Boccob's Blessed Book

First Post
Question: the item description for Boccob's Blessed Book states a wizard can fill the book with spells without paying the 25 gp per page material cost.

The cost in the PHB is 100 gp per page.

Is the item a "discount" on material costs or should writing a spell in the book be free?

Thanks,
AG

Cool, that's what I was hoping. Is there any rules support anywhere or is this an error? My DM will want to know.

Anyone else agree/disagree?

It's free. Think of the '25gp' value as a typo.

From the official Main 3.5 FAQ, page 13: (emphasis mine)

The cost to write a spell into a spellbook is 100 gp per page
(for materials) as noted in the Player’s Handbook. Note that
with the arrival of D&D 3.5, this cost is half what it used to be,
because spells now require only one page in a spellbook per
spell level (minimum one page), rather than two pages per spell
level.
You can put any spell into a Boccob’s blessed book that
you normally could put in your regular spellbook. When you do
so, you don’t have to pay the 100 gp per page for materials.

You still have to pay the cost for acquiring the spell (if any).

Hope this helps your cause! :)

Page 13 of the main 3.5 D&D FAQ addresses this magic item. The 25gp is an error and should be 100gp. The blessed book allows you to copy the spell for free. It still takes the normal time of 24 hours and you still pay normal acquisition costs, if any (like buying a scroll with the spell you want scribed upon it).

Edit: Douane beat me to it and actually quoted the FAQ. What a guy!
