BoEF - Store or Use?

The Ebay Idiot Syndrome is a powerful force and one that I'm not sure I can ignore. I'm leaning toward storing it and then buying a pdf in the future, as Auld Grump suggests. As for the reading the content, it's doubtful something would find its way into one of our games as we play so infrequently (1-2/month).

Any more arguments either way?

I'd probably lean to putting it up for auction now rather than later. Most old edition stuff isn't going for that much unless it's something like 'First Printing AD&D Deities and Demigods' or a few rare modules. If you're already seeing it go for $45, then put it up, but I still see it being offered in eBay stores for $20-someodd.

Do I open the shrinkwrap and have a look (thus devaluing the tome for later resale) or do I store it away until 3 more editions of D&D have come and gone?

I bought the $10 preview at Gencon in 2003 - while interesting, it didn't really give me anything to use in my games, since I don't dwell on sexuality in-game all that much, and I don't use a lot of non-core material, anyway.

but on an errund for Angelsboi, i promised A.V. i would buy the real book when it was released.

it didn't add anything i needed for my campaign. but i can say that about a lot of d02 books i've purchased.

The thing I could have done without was the flavor text, which read like the middle of a Penthouse letter

you must not have read many forum letters. some of them have way better flavor.

Heh. Yeah, I know. So I'd better provide some background about my group's habits. We've used maybe three PrCs, four or five feats and a handful of spells from Tome'n'Blood, which so far is the most used non-core manual. A few PrCs and two or three feats from Sword'n'Fist. Two of the monster classes from Savage Species, one feat, and I've made the monster progression for one creature using those rules. Just one PrC from the Manual of the Planes, though it was a very good read and I still suggest it to anyone. Uhm... one PrC from Song'n'Silence; one or two, a couple of feats, and a handful of spells from Defenders of the Faith. Two PrCs from Masters of the Wild and one or two feats... I could go on for a while, and they are all on this line.

The point is: I don't have time to try out everything, so I only try the few things that stand out as very interesting (next in line for the BoEF is one of the core classes it presents). But that doesn't mean that what I didn't use isn't worthwhile. I've found the BoEF to be slightly less useful than a splatbook - which, for a book whose primary focus comes up maybe once every ten sessions, isn't bad overall.

Plus, it does have elf pr0n too. That's got to count for something.
