To all of you who have read/got the book, what do you think of the Holy Warrior variant Paladin? Does anyone think that the domain system for Paladin powers is fair or broken?

I don't like it. Look at, for example, the Air domain: a standard domain ability (as cleric's Air domain), two bonus feats, and a major energy resistance on level 2. Considering that they get 2 domains each, this is even worse... Temple of Flesh grants a dizzying list of immunities; Unyielding, Warrior's Heart, and Feat of Strength make the HW more of a barbarian than a barbarian, etc.

As pointed out by CRG, many are overpowered by quite a bit. I think the idea is a very good one however as it does away with generic paladins.

I ended up making my own conversions to 3.5 using the holy warrior & the paladin varients from dragon magazine 310 & 312 as the base. IMO it worked out quite well, is rather balanced, & adds a lot of flavor.

Personally I don't really think the air domain is overpowering as the feats aren't that great, (improved initiative and dodge........big deal), and the resistance probably won't come into it for the most part of your adventures. If you compare to a paladin then it's actually weaker IMO, (resistance and divine health both work in certain situations but divine health makes you immune whereas resistance doesn't. Two mediocore feats vs an increasingly powerful heal 1/day and increasingly powerful sv bonuses........I'd choose the latter every time!).

I do agree with your second domain choice though. I seem to recall a holy rage/trance that would make a barbarian look like a whining maggot and when you add the feat of str well........nuff said!

Improved initiative is one of the best feats in the game in my opinion, there are so many times when striking first equals striking last.

I like the class. As with all things, in certain playing groups it may be seen as too powerful while others deem it just right. But it is very easy to modify.
