In all honesty, I'd much rather see a good looking female than a male on a cover, in interior artwork, etc.

However, I like pictures that have both. Gives a good contrast. I hate it when a picture of a certain class (such as new PrC in Dragon), for example only has a female or male depiction. It would be nice to have both as a contrast.

I'm guessing, then, that the male in question was not a Conan-like figure. Not that I really see why that should bother anyone either...

Funny, the last time I remember a furor in DRAGON regarding artwork was back in the dark ages when I was in high school, oh, 1986 or thereabouts, regarding a scantily-clad female witch (?) on the cover. As I recall, those complaints also came from male readers.

So really, I don't know that this means anything other than lending support to the theory that DRAGON's readership is largely male.

BoVD: It was raunchy enough at times that I wouldn't let my children (Assuming I had any) read it until they were old enough to make distinctions between real and make believe.

Nudity: There is more comparable male nudity than most notice. The females that are pictured nude are typically bare chested, I have seen my fair share of bare chested men depicted as well.

Personal Belief: I could care less about nudity or naughtiness, its all just lines on a page, whether written or drawn. If they wanna make the next cover of Dragon a total shlong-fest more power to them, it won't have any impact on what is contained inside. I do believe it would effect sales though, since most of the hobby is dominated by men. It is sad, but true. Just like beer commercials, you cater them to your target audience. If there were more girls playing I think the demographics would change.

Dragongirl, you should start a whole new thread on this.

Interesting Observation: Why is it that all of the mens magazines feature really hot women on the cover? I suppose the answer is that sex sells. Then why do most of the womens mags (Cosmo, et al) feature....really hot women on the cover?

On the nudity issue,

It seems only to be the tops and even then it is more creepy than fantastic or erotic. Yeah, nice breasts, but those mandibles...

Not to mention the one of the woman who had a breast sawed off.

The artwork crossed the line. Seriously. How can a parent of a young child leave this book lying around? But I had no real problems with the "evilness" of the text.

I picked it up and am quite pleased. Considering I paid full cover I think it was a better deal than the ELH or MM2, both of which I received from buy.com for some ridiculous low price. When I opened the book to page 115 and the "Nipple Clamp of Exquisite Pain" I knew this was the book for me. :D

I like the fact that it pushes the envelope, albeit not really that far. They head in some interesting directions but, ultimately, pull up short of being truly "vile" or "evil." I agree with the decision. They (Monte) head down enough paths to give you some great ideas and then pull up just short to let you complete the thought on your own. That last key step is where it really gets "vile." :) This book easily could have been much worse for simply the sake of being "over the top" whereas, instead, its not too over sensationalized. I hope to see more products like this.

So, would I like the book still if it were instead the "Book of Ultimate Angelic Goodness?" Yes, I believe I would if similar material was covered in the same fashion. This book has given me some good ideas to inject into a campaign which, in the end, I feel will make for a more satisfying experience. True heroism rising to eclipse the level of evil present in the antagonists is A Good Thing™ in my mind.

At bet or worst dpending on your point of view it was mildly naughty. My biggest complaint is how wussy much of the stuf was. Most of the feats are vastly underpowered, the prestige classes most are a bunch of nancy boys in evil clothing(though there are a couple powerhouses), the spells are fairly weak overall, the demon/devil loards are really weak in that the lower level ones would get smoked by older dragons now problem and a party of 16-18th elvel players would just roll through them without notice. (the higher end ones are potent if you don't do the epic stuff)etc. If that's the best evil can muster I doubt they will strike fear into 5 year olds.
