Do the fine folks at EN World know where I can locate some good resources for underwater adventuring, magic use, races, etc. I was thinking of running a short campaign for my group to roleplay underwater races and adventure in the murky depths of the seas.
Stormwrack
Seafarer's Handbook
Seas of Blood
Into the Blue
Dead Man's Chest
The Deep
None, IMO, have a spellcasting system that really does the job neatly, but if you combine things it works quite well. Seafarer's Handbook provides most new options for underwater combat, but it's 3e.
In Stormwrack, it mentions on pg 105 "Most kinds of metal armor do not fare well in water, especially seawater, so aquatic peoples use alternative materials..."
It doesn't say anything about how the metal armor does not fare well. Besides making you sink, does it rust, hamper your movement, or what? What about magical armor, can it rust?
I'm about to run an adventure in the Elem. Plane of Water and I would like to get the heavy armored PC's thinking about alternative armors. The plane doesn't have bouyancy effects or water pressure, but I still just have a hard time picturing a guy in full plate battling underwater. It would be cool if they would adapt to their surroundings and buy coral or shell armor or something. Otherwise, all of the aquatic NPC's would just wear full plate armor also
