Brainstorm a (Small) Religion

Luck deities

Tymora and Beshaba are goddesses of good and bad luck (CG, CE) of Faerun (Forgotten Realms) formed when generic deity of luck was infected, and blasted by shocked good deity who witnessed corrupted luck deity heading toward her.

They have been archfoes ever since. A novel had a deity attempt to put the two back together, but he was thwarted. (Tymora's Luck, by Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak)

Reading up on Beshaba on wikipedia, that religion seemed mostly about spite and envy, which indicates that those two emotions ought to motivate followers of my god, whatever his name ends up being.

But I like the idea of a "Doom Magnet," a living incarnation of the power of bad luck to ruin your life and the life of everyone you touch, as a way of spreading the faith too.

I also like superstition as being a major way of spreading this god of ill-luck's faith, as so many of them are about warding off bad luck rather than attracting good luck.

Just to suggest a different tack, how about her being opposed by a god of determinism whose clerics teach that there is no such thing as luck.

Bit of inspiration here - combining this with the idea of this being two aspects of one faith......

the 'good ' aspects accept that luck pays a part in their life and try to propriate the goddess with worship and devotion etc so they are better able to deal with the bad, and enjoy the good

the 'bad' realise that good and bad luck will happen, and so attempt to make sure the bad luck happens to other people, so the good luck will happen to them.

this fits in with a basically CN force of chance and just different approaches to worship

dunno if this will fit into your campaign - but might make an uncomforable revelation for the PC when they see how someone else can corrupt their faith.....
