Brainstorm: Special Multi-classes for Power Sources

You know what I've just discovered?

There's no "list of famous wizards" article on wikipedia. I might have to remedy this.

But yeah! Spell groups for famous wizards!

Maybe focus on the Circle of Eight?
  • Bigby
  • Bucknard
  • Drawmij
  • Leomund
  • Nystul
  • Otto
  • Rary
  • Tenser
You pick one of these names, and you gain two benefits initially:
1) Once per day, you can cast a ritual with your master's name in it without expending components. Student of Tenser = free Tenser's Floating Disc each day.
2) You gain some kind of bonus to spells with the master's name. I'm not entirely sure what yet.

Dungeons & Dragons is trademarked too.. would you suggest we avoid referring to that name?

If you verbatim quote the spells text that is copyright infringement.

Hey, copyright infringement talk, please go elsewhere.

Where are those other feats for a Swordmage / Bard / whatever? Greenflame something.

I think stuff that modifies the At-Will's would be great for a "school" (hence my 'arcane student' stuff), while a multiclass feat that you swap out spells along the way would be great for continued apprenticeship.

Does anybody else have any examples?

The Student of Bigby's could start out similar to Weapon Focus (but maybe slightly better, since there are limited Bigby spells and wizards usually should hit multiple areas)

So like - +2 / +4 / +6 dmg at different tiers. Just as a basic start.

Does anyone have any ideas for something more flavorful?

Funky, there have been magical AW modifiying feats before, yeah. One that allowed basically turning an AW into a melee attack, and another that modified them in general.

Oh yeah (love reaper's touch) I can be a sword mage striker by being a sorceror/wizard/warlock and envisioning the melee version of my spells as being a Conjurers Blade.. now if a shield spell ability was available as a feat I'd be all set...

Do we have enough Leomund's etc or Otto's named spells for this to be as interesting as it could be?
If not I suppose we could extend the list some, I've seen reskinning of at-wills to be inferior or broken versions of named higher level magics...

Tenser's students might be able to lift more weight or sustain more Mage Hand effects forinstance or is that Bigby for the hand image.

I think we might have to come up with more spells for each of the wizards just to be able to show off their new multiclass stuff.
We should look to the past for inspiration.
These are all spells from previous editions that bear Tenser's name:

Tenser's Brawl (bonus to grappling)
Tenser's Deadly Strike (bonus to melee attack)
Tenser's Destructive Resonance (make an item explode, dealing damage based on weight?)
Tenser's Eye of the Eagle (perception is doubled?)
Tenser's Eye of the Tiger (target gains darkvision?)
Tenser's Flaming Blade (conjure a sword of fire?)
Tenser's Fortunes of War (target makes a saving throw against death?)
Tenser's Giant Strength (???)
Tenser's Hunting Hawk (transform an arrow into a hawk?)
Tenser's Master of Arms (target gains temporary weapon proficiency?)
Tenser's Primal Fury (target goes berserk?)
Tenser's Running Warrior (target ignores encubrance?)
Tenser's Staff of Smiting (target gains a bonus to fighting with staffs?)
Tenser's Steady Aim (target does not suffer penalties from movement when making a ranged attack?)

OK, so apparently Tenser liked to pummel people.
