D&D 4E Brainstorming 4E characters

With the latest DDI build having hybrids in I am finding the possibilities really exciting.

I am having a great time combining hybrid and multi-classing. It feels like, for me personally, that 4e has finally caught up(if not exceeded) with the plethora of options of 3e.

I agree that it may be the non-ddi factor in your 4e experience.

How about everyone else, especially those who did another game before 4E. Do you brainstorm less in 4E than your last game, or more? Especially if the game was 3.5?

Brainstorming is my standard operating procedure for designing PCs in every RPG, except in those cases when I just get hit by a bolt of inspiration that gives me the PC concept entirely thought out all at once.

For me, it can start in any one place: a desire to use a particular race, class, or even weapon. A lyric in a song. A piece of art.

From there, I try to build the PC out from that initial seed.

Of course, not every PC gets played. And not every PC that gets played is a "success."

Honestly, part of it might be the non-DDI part. The CB makes it a breeze to try new things, to swap parts on a character to see what you like. Doing it by hand has its own rewards, I would agree, but takes much longer.

I would have to agree that lack of a DDI subscription might be part of the problem, as I do not do Hybrid (Did not get PHBIII either) or have access to the class acts and winning races articles (Bad experiences with overpowered Dragon stuff in 3.x) so maybe it is more just me. Interesting.

I am not willing to go to DDI to correct this problem, though, but glad to see people who do are enjoying it as it was something I enjoyed quite a bit in the past 10 years or so of 3.x.

As long as someone is carrying the banner....
