Brawler / Bare Knuckle Fighter Classes?

Hola. I'm in the middle of trying to build a decent brawler/bare knuckle fighter and for the life of me I can't find any decent base class options, monk options (ala OA or Quint. Monk) or anything else that scream "this is perfect!". I've tried the following:

1) Beyond Monks - The Art of the Fight and the Martial Artist base class presented in the book. This is very, very close to perfect with the martial secrets, "style" feats, AC bonus that is a bit better then the Monk....but...the damage progression seems very high (4d6 once you hit 20th level). That is my only problem with it. And I think if the DM saw it he too would have something to say.

2) 3.5 Monk/OA Monk: Going from what I saw on the 3.5 revision thread even with the ability to swap out between different feats at given levels the Monk (both 3.5 and OA) are still a bit to "mystical" for my taste (at least for this character).

3) Quintessential Monk's character concepts and different fighting schools are good, but still don't have anything that is exactly right. The Pugilist concept is good, but trading a faster damage dice progression for a slower movement progression doesn't take out the fact that it still has the mystic-like monk stuff in there. Swapping out the normal monk stuff using the fighting schools isn't bad, there were a few that looked good - but I can tell you right now that all that tinkering with a class would only make my DM say one thing: "No."

So - can anyone give me any suggestions? If I could find something that was a blend of the fighter class and the monk class (fighter bab + saves, monk unarmed strike ability + damage dice progression, maybe an AC bonus progression or Wis AC bonus) with some options for taking martial feats along a "school" concept of brawling/grappling (or any other school) that would be very nice. But anything to give me some hints would be great.

Thanks a bunch.

I would suggest that you look at "Blood and fists" I think that it is made by PRG Objects. The classes in there are 10 levels only but you could adapt it to be a core class (20 levels). It has a brawler in there and over 30 different martial arts styles and is great in my opinion.

There is a brawler PrC in one of the past Dragon magazines. Not sure which, though. Its grouped with a grappler PrC and another fighting-type PrC. Should you have access to it, it may prove either a good starting point, or at least food for thought.

Thanks guys - i will try to check all your suggestions out. I reread the OA rules for monks and figured out that i can drop some of the monk abilites (Stunning attack, deflect arrows & improbed trip) for some other martial arts feats from OA, so i am able to come very close to what i want.
