Breaking my Monster Manual NDA? Gotta share my joy...

I will admit, one monster per page is such a no brainer, and WOTC should be the publisher most able to accomodate the added cost this would incur. I agree with Joe on this one.

I don't. I never saw the reason for the big fuss over the layout. The only thing I could see improving is not splitting stat blocks between pages. One monster per page would be a significant reduction in the available amount of creatures for a dubious gain in readability. Buy a pad of yellow stickies and pre-mark the pages you need; it's cheaper than having to buy a whole different book for the creatures you'd push out.

Skeletons and Zombies are templates. A few other undead though were not. I don't know if I'm recalling this correctly, but I don't think specters, ghouls, ghasts, wights or wrights were templates, although I do remember seeing a more powerful version of the wight.

for a ghoul and wight template check out the Penumbra Bestiary (I wrote these two entries). At www.atlas-games.com they have a preview of the ghoul template and ghast prc from the book.

Of course ghoul templates can also be found at Monte Cook's site, Ambient used to have one, which I believe is in their Gar'Udok sourcebook and will soon be in the Book of Templates, and KoK's adventure Harvest of darkness has a ghoul template as well. Also I think Slayer's guide to undead and a Dragon magazine article had ghoul templates, so if you want one you can still get one!

Other than the flavor text, the entire point of SGTUD seems to be "a template for everything and everything with it's template." I think the only template it lacks for MM undead creatures is a nightshade template.

4. Templates aren't in a seperate section but in the main body of the text.

I guess I prefer this, actually. Not sure why-- I value alphabetization in a monster book, I think.

I prefer this as well. I can't tell you how many times I tried to look up Ghost or Vampire only to forget they are all the way in the back as a template...
