Broken 3.0 spells and the use thereof

Just take Polymorph Other. That's broken enough to get you covered until you convert to 3.5! :D

Turn your whole party into combat monsters (i.e. Trolls) and your enemies into slugs, with the best combat buff and save-or-die spell for your level, all-in-one package! Best served with a Greater Spell Focus (Transmutation).

If you have access to non-PHB spells. Blindsight from MoF and Darkness (or better let the cleric do Deeper Darkness). It uses up a lot of spell slots to cover the party (altho the Cleric can help, too), but unless your opponents are suited for fighting in magical darkness, they're in a very dire situation and Blindsight keeps running all day long!

You can do the same for yourself only with Blacklight (also MoF).

Create Magic Tattoo (FRCS) can, if extended, give your party a nice long-lasting combat boost.

Khelben's Suspended Silence (MoF) + Flying Familiar + Ready Action (ready a move action on casting attempts of opposing mage to fly within silence range).

Hi!

Get a min-maxed tank in your party and cast Haste on HIM. It doesn't burn through your spells as quickly and the extra 45-150 points of damage or so you're likely to get out of it

This tank will be 7th level (maybe 8th). How can you min-max a combat character so that he does 45 points of damage with only one attack at that level???

Haste/polymorph other are the must-have spells. And don't forget about Dispel Magic!
Cast Protection from Elements on the tank and then you can throw fireballs around freely. :D
I'd suggest Color Spray as well; against many weak foes its quite useful. And its SO beautiful! ;)

The main problem with this (the same problem with party Improved Invisibility) is that you have to cast the spell a lot. The only way to do that is a lot of scrolls or a wand due to the limitation of 1 to 3 4th level spells for a 7th level Wizard.

He meant for the whole duration of the spell, ie 7 rounds.

True, although at seventh level you could easily enough be a Barbarian/Fighter/Some PrC Goblin who specializes in the Heavy Lance and rides around on a trained worg indoors.

Assuming a starting strength of 14, each raging ride-by-attack is going to be inflicting 3d8+24 points of damage before magical equipment. Since we've already noted that the Wizard could easily simply make all the weapons in the party +2 at this point (and that the goblin can pocket that +2 to-hit as Power Attack) - we may as well upgrade that damage to 3d8+36 per hit.

Or roughly an increase in damage of about 49.5 per extra hit.

So it's not terribly impractical that the character might be gaining about 50 points of damage per round from having cleave cast upon him at 7th level.

Note also that 3.5 has made this sort of character even better by allowing them the reach and damage bonuses while still using a shield - and causing the power attack bonus to be 6 points of damage per to-hit penalty instead of "only" 3. But we are talking 3rd edition here.

Duration: permanent! 'nuff said. :D
