"Broken" PDF file?

Help.

I just dropped $10 to purchase the CAV Second Edition rules PDF from Reaper's online store.

I got the email order confirmation, and then got the download key by email. I followed the link, and downloaded the PDF to my desktop.

When I tried to open the PDF with Acrobat reader 7.0 I got an error message that said "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

I tried downloading the file a couple more times with the same result. I upgraded to Acrobat Reader 8.0 with no luck. I even switched over to Internet Explorer from Firefox to download the file and that didn't work either.

I've sent an email to Reaper about the situation, but haven't heard back. I know it's the weekend, but my download link is only active for 48 hrs, and I'd really like to look at the rules I bought. :(

Any suggestions from the Tech guys and gals out there?

My wife tried a free trial of one of those PDF repair programs, and it seemed to work. It only shows you the first page of the repaired document, and if you want the whole thing you have to drop over $100. Not an option. :)

Help if you can please.

Try using GhostScript and GhostView - it uses a different postscript library to Acrobat. The FixIT reader might use this same library too so try that.

Also, you could try - though its only marginal that this might work - to print the file to a printer as a post script document without using acrobat. I'm not sure how you do this offhand to any particular printer tho.

Thanks for the reply.

I was preparing to try some of your suggestions, when the problem somehow resolved itself.

I attempted the download for the seventh time (lucky # seven I guess), and this time Acrobat opened the file with no problems. I didn't do anything different than I had done for the 4th 5th and 6th attempts. I didn't even re-start the computer anymore after the 4th attempt.

I'm inclined to believe (as an admitted computer novice) that there was some problem on the Reaper end of the transaction. The other PDFs that I downloaded today never had any performance issues.

Thanks again for coming to my aid. I was getting very frustrated with the problem.
