I really liked the alternate / extra classes in the Kalamar PHB. I think alternate or modified classes can give a lot of different flavors to characters and can minimize a dual classing that usually does not fit a characters background or current actions.

The infiltrator is a good class, but not a standard ranger as I see them. Infiltrator seems a little darker than I picture a textbook ranger. Many of the alt. rangers allow people to play a character that is more in toon with their character concept. If the PHB ranger fits your concept that is great.

From what I've heard, it sounds like what I've been suggesting, a variant Rogue with the wilderness Special Abilities of the Barbarian, Druid, and Ranger.

That's exactly it. Though more Druid/Ranger than Barbarian. It's listed officially as a Rogue varient.

It has quite a few cool abilities like sneak attack, wilderness abilities. It seems like boosting HD is giving it a little too much of a boost. It's not a frontline fighter, it's a sneaky ambushing class.
