The save on Miasma is just delaying death. The only thing I know that will stop a Miasma is a dispell magic.
If that doesn't arrive before the first failed save... goodbye character (or dragon or whatever)

I don't disagree it becomes valuable...but at 12th level, not first or fifth. I don't much care for it, but I don't think it's broken...it just lacks verisimilitude. I think it should require a WILL save, though. The value of knowing a creature's HD, or a NPCs, isn't always that useful, but that may depend on your game. My players used it an Ethereal Dreadnaught this weekend, and after seeing it had 28HD.....well, they were serious about hiding.

I agree about Miasma...I think it should be easier to get rid of, and I think you're right, it's broken. I just reread the full spell, and it's over the top. Lasts 5 rounds/level (so at least what, 2 minutes?), and it automatically succeeds. The Con Save is also worded poorly...if I read it right, you will eventually fail, no matter what, or eventually succeed, no matter what. Either way, it's ridiculous. I'm not sure why this isn't just a straight FORT save, regardless.
