Brood Mother

I am thinking about using a brood mother (from Dragon 298) in an upcoming game.

Basically it's a drider-like aberration, but there's something really wonky with its stats -- it's a Large 18 HD monster with 26 Str and a primary attack bonus of only +14. By my math, that ought to be +13 BAB, +8 Str, and -1 size = +20. Also, the advancement line goes right to Gargantuan with no stops at Huge.

Was errata ever published for this, or was this ever updated to 3.5?

I haven't seen a 3.5 update of it. I believe you assessment of the BAB is correct.

My guess is that it was once Huge, they retconned it, but missed a few things.

I don't have the magazine in front of me, but my notes indicate that it lacks feats and skills, despite being intelligent. Is that the case?

It does have feats and skills, but I honestly can't remember enough of the 3.0 monster building rules to quickly determine if they are right or not.

The bite damage (4d6) and HD (18) are more in line with a Gargantuan creature per Skip Williams' monster building article. But even with a Gargantuan size modifier the Attack bonus doesn't add up to +14.

Now that I look at this again, the AC is wrong as well: AC 21 (+3 Dex, -1 size, +12 natural). What the heck?

This MUST have gotten errata.
