BSG: Season 2, Episode 11 ( spoilers!!)

Steel_Wind

Legend
No - the episode has not aired. But the summary of it is up and some critical plot points emerge:

"Resurrection Ship, Part 1" - A military power struggle threatens to escalate into all-out war as the Battlestars Galactica and Pegasus attempt to join forces to destroy a critical Cylon target: a "Resurrection" ship.

Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) prevents a potentially deadly face-off between the Battlestars Galactica and Pegasus when she arrives at the last minute bearing stunning recon photos of the Cylon "Resurrection" ship. Unable to resist this tempting target, Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and Admiral Helena Cain (Michelle Forbes) establish an uneasy truce as they agree to prioritize the destruction of the "Resurrection" ship, tabling their conflicts, for now.

But Adama remains distrustful, as he learns that Cain's survive-at-all-costs attitude saw Pegasus abandon its civilian fleet months ago. Disturbed by this news, President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) believes that as soon as the Resurrection Ship is destroyed, Cain will jettison Galactica's civilian fleet. As the power struggle continues with Cain, Adama must make an impossible decision, on the eve of a battle that could change the face of the Cylon war.

So...

Any apologists out there for Admiral Cain still? It's time to put a bullet in the head of this crazed bitch if you ask me...

Alternatively, Roslin and Adama plan to betray Cain during the fight, leaving the Pegasus to face the wrath of the Cylons as they escape...

Pegasus died an obscure death in BSG OS. Who's up for thinking of a similar fate?

Actually it was never shown whether or not Pegasus was destroyed in the original series. They left it open for a possible return if the series lasted. I suspect had it done so, Pegasus would have made a return of some sort.

Isn't that the essence of an obscure death? Assumed destroyed but not really sure?

Naw, to me an obscure death is Boba Fett at the end of Return of the Jedi or similar conditions where said character/ entity was killed, and it seemed all but certain they were dead, but you weren't given the benefit of a spectacular finish, just the uncertain realization that they were dead....ish. Pegasus went into a firestorm and just about every character seemingly hinted "that may not be the last time we see them." Which to me sounded an aweful lot like the way most sci fi shows went during that era. Given enough episodes, most of them had a "return of" episode.

Well, the spoilers that have been coming down for Episode 11 have said about the possible destruction or disappearance of Pegasus that:

Pegasus survives, although Cain is killed in a moment of revenge by "Gina"/Pegasus 6 for her torture and rape by the Pegasus crew. The Pegasus XO (the one who warned that the confrontation would spiral out of control) is promoted to Commander by Roslin and Adama is promoted to Admiral, and the episode ends with the fleet having two battlestars and having crippled the cylon pursuit fleet that was following them. From the looks of it the fleet will have two active battlestars for most of the rest of the season (at least).

two battlestars for the rest of the season would be pretty cool ...

ressurection ship? ... the cylon node that lets them all know what each copy knows? ... is it the only one? ... was it the reason they decided to return and attack? ...

I'd love the to see the cylons get theirs, if even only for one episode.

I'd like to see some of the original toasters out there too ...

If this is anything like the original series, the cylons will fade into the background for a while after this and the Galactica will discover some previously unknown civilizations.

Somehow I don't think that's what Ronald Moore has in mind for the new show though.

Agreed. It turned into Trek that way. Maybe we needed more Trek in 1978-78 - but we don't need more of it in 2006.

I thought the most brilliant plot devices that Moore used in the new BSG were: 1) the cylon clones in the fleet and 2) the cylon in Baltar's head and 3) the presence of fleet personnel on Caprica and later Kobol.

We are missing the "Meanwhile back on Caprica" aspect of the show that worked so well. I think they need to return to it - or something like it - somehow. They can justify it with kick-ass jump technology. They should do it.

Kara Thrace said she'd come back and she meant it. Maybe Roslin hand waved it - but Starbuck should not.
