Buckler einhander?

Simm

First Post
The Einhander feat (PHB2 pg. 94) can be used if you fight with a light or one-handed weapon in one hand and nothing in the other.
Since a buckler can be used with a bow, crossbow, or two-handed weapon I assume it does not take up your hand.
Is it possible to use a buckler with the Einhander feat? Should it be?

I would think so, but to be clear...

you must decide (round to round) whether you are using the buckler for defence (gaining AC bonus and possibly other magical enhancements from specific enchanted bucklers), or whether you are using your 'free hand' for other endeavors like 2 handed weapons.

In this case, I would say yes, you can use the einhander feat with a buckler attached, but not while getting the AC bonus from the buckler. Switching to the AC bonus from the buckler would negate the use of the einhander feat.

Unless you have Improved Buckler Defense.

In that case, I agree.

...burning 2 feats to get marginal AC bonus (and whatever magical enhancments the buckler provides) in addition to the benefits of Einhander (or other uses in combination with a buckler) would be OK. Seems like a very good way to build a lightly armored, swashbuckler type of character.

Yes, a buckler leaves the hand free. And as noted above, Improved Buckler Defense would be a good choice.

Technically, yes. Note, though, that the use of a buckler with the "Narrow Profile" use of the feat should probably be disallowed by your DM - if you've tucked your off-hand in behind you to present a narrow profile, there's no way for you also to use your buckler to defend against attacks. (But that's not something that's stated in the rules themselves, of course.)

if you read the text on improved buckler you will note it doesnt work that way the bonus from the feat applies to your off hand ei wielding a weapon in off hand with buckler and still gain shield bonus

This shouldn't matter. Most of the time, the character will use his weapon in his on-hand and the buckler in the other. The only case where it's likely to matter is if the character switches, probably as part of an "off-hand swap". And in this case, Improved Buckler Defence would apply.
