Buffy - rank the seasons...

So, Buffy's over. Perhaps its a little to soon to really get a good perspective on the show overall, but what the hell. Rank the seasons...

For me it's probably be:

3
2
7
6
5
1
4

3

5

6
1
4

I feel vaguely guilty about ranking 4 as the lowest, because I loved some of the episodes in it (Hush, for example).

Okay, you stuck what's obviously the worst season (season 6) in the middle, so it's impossible to tell whether you're going from highest to lowest or the other way around...

For me (apparently one of the few people who really liked Riley), it's

4 (best)
3
2
5
1
7
6 (worst)

Well, it's not that obvious. I actually liked season 6, despite the fact that one of my fave characters Tara was killed off.

Whilst season 4 was easily the worst for me...didnt like Adam, Riley, or The Initiative.

Season 5...one that everyone loved...I didnt. I liked it, but didnt really like Glory.

As for Season 1...I dont really know where I'd place it, mainly because I havent seen any of it for years. But given I favour continuing story over standalone eps I guess it would be in the bottom half.

That said, I did like all seasons and do want to own it all on DVD at some point. Same with Angel.

Here's mine (with commentary):

Best: 5 - A solid season, and the final episode was fantastic.

Followed closely by: 2 - Again, the final episode really did it.
And almost as close: 3 - Lots of great episodes, loved the Slayerfest, and also the showdown between Buffy & Faith

The next pair would be: 1 - big points for originality, and the shake-down season for any season is rocky (look at ST:TNG)
And then: 4 - A solid storyline with some very good episodes.

Then: 6 - Bookended with a good 3-episode arc at both the beginning and end, and the musical was great, but I could have skipped the remainder of the season.

And lastly: 7 - The series had definately jumped the shark by this point. Didn't really care for the Finale.

i've only re-watched seasons 1 and 2 on DVD.
but i've been watching from day 1 so ths is going by memory. SPOILERS for those that havent seen

4: the best. RILEY RULES. the strange army men kidnapping demons every episode was a great tease. when riley stepped to the mirror, got scanned and became initiative soldier boy... WOW. never saw that coming.

3. wrapping up high school. brings in faith. set up much of the stuff that would be revisited over the next 4 years

2. introducing spike. the judge was cool. and buffy killing angel was one of those rare nifty moments when a show does exactly what it should even though so many people didnt want to see it.

6. ok, so some of the stuff (magic crack?) was bizarre or preachy, BUT the trio, tara's death, the flaying, the buffy-willow fight, and the best episode of any tv show ever ONCE MORE WITH FEELING. when i re-watch 3 and 6, i might actually move this UP a notch or two. i dont know why so many people dislike it.

7. well the early episodes seem to set up a lot of stuff, and then most of it kinda went nowhere. i still thought they did a decent if not spectacular job of wrapping it up. and it gave us more andrew.

1. in the beginning. this is what started it all, but it was shorter and had more silly or badly sfxed baddies. not too shabby.

5. let me say this: i liked dawn from day 1. i thought the magical new kid sister was a neat way to shake up the show. so if i'm one of the few who likes dawn, why is 5 dead last? one word: GLORY. (and ben) GLORY was just ridiculous. if i ever see the actress who played glory in a movie or tv show i will immediately leave or change the channel ugh. how did she get hired?

what have we learned?
if you don't like RILEY you SUCK
and if you dont like ONCE MORE WITH FEELING you REALLY SUCK
:) :) :)

and thats all i gotta say about that

(next year's tv is a barren wasteland... luckily cartoon network will have new episodes of DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24TH 1/2 CENTURY)

Ah, Buffy. We knew ye well...

2 & 3 are tied for first. They had the highest quantity of excellent episodes. The intro of Spike & Dru + Angelus with that crazy finish was tops. And the followup of Faith + The Mayor was equally good. There was no way the show was going to top those 2 seasons back-to-back. Oddly enough it was here that Joss started to split his attention between 2 shows. I know that must have had something to do with the slight drop in quality for the remaining seasons.

The rest are tied for second as they each had high points and a few not-so-hot eps. If season 1 had been a full season I may be able to get a better gauge on it, but when I watched it the first and then on DVD it was still fun. It's been great watching the show grow. :)

4 had some awesome moments. I didn't mind Riley and liked Spikes part in everything. 5 had a great overall plot and Glory was a fun Big Bad. This was also the last season for one of my favorite characters: Giles (only second to Xander). Dawn never bugged me in the slightest.

6 was a mixed bag and it's also the only season that I didn't catch all the episodes on their first run so it was a bit scattered for me. But there were some AWESOME eps in there, including the Musical which is one of my favorite hours of TV EVER. The ep where everyone lost their memory was cool, too.

7 had a little lag in there. Started off strong but fell in to a bit of a rut. I suspect it was because Joss was working on 3 projects at once including trying to get a new show off the ground and figure out if this was truly the last season of Buffy. But the finale was really fun and did justice to the overall show. Didn't leave a bitter taste in my mouth at all. It made me remember why I liked the show to begin with. If I absolutely HAD to pick a least favorite it would be this season only because it had the least amount of really excellent eps. They were there, but just not as numerous as previous seasons.
